Where is the creek?

The creek is called the Buffalo Bayou but I have always known it as just the Bayou. The Bayou runs through Houston and ends spilling out into Galveston Bay. The Bayou was where I played as a kid in summer and holidays when I was in Houston visiting family. Behind my grandmothers house, running through memorial park where my dad ran, alongside my grandfathers neighborhood. It was pale green, smelled like an old mildewy car and reminded me of a set to a horror movie. Houston used to dump it's toxic waste in the waterway and started cleaning it up in 86 which was in the middle of my childhood. I was always warned not to go in the water and adults swore that alligators lurked just under the surface and had an appetite for little children but I was still intrigued. I would sneak away from my family and stand on the waters edge, waiting, watching the water rush by.
